Baseball 365

12/11/2014 - 2014 Season

7/28/14 - Baseball 365's season came to a close with a heartbreaking loss to the Rats 4-3.  Baseball 365 had outscored the Rats 12-0 thru the first 17 innings of the series, but couldn't close the door in game 2 and were then outplayed and outscored 8-3 over the last 10 innings of the series losing the last 2 games.  Two major weaknesses were exposed in the series.  Starters Cousins, Siggelkow, and Favaro all pitched outstanding.  But playoff games are 9 innings, and with the exception of Cousins complete game shutout in Game 1, once the bullpen entered for Siggelkow and Favaro, the games fell apart.  Pitchers need to be able to throw consistant strikes out of the bullpen.  Both games proved we don't have reliable arms coming out of the bullpen.  Secondly, the offense struggled all series against very mediocre pitching.  More bats need to be added to the middle of the order.  You have to be able to score more than 3 runs in two straight playoff games against pitchers not hitting close to 80 mph on the radar gun.  It was a disspointing end to a very good season.  We're very proud of how we did in our first year in a very tough Park National league.  We had a lot of talent, a great group of guys, and a lot of fun!

7/27/14 - In Game 2, Zach Siggelkow pitched a great game holding the Rats off the scoreboard.  Unfortunately, the bullpen didn't fare as well and ended up surrendering the 3-0 lead in the 9th inning.  Series tied 1-1.  Deciding game Monday at 7:00.

7/26/14 - In the 1st game of the best of 3 playoff series against the Rats, Baseball 365 beat the Rats 9-0 as Nate Cousins threw a 9 inning complete game shutout.  Cousins kept the Rats hitters guessing wrong all day and didn't really let them get anything going.  Jackson Goplen hit his 1st homerun of the season.  Game 2 today!

7/23/14 - Baseball 365 lost a nail bitter to the Minneapolis Cobras in the last regular season game of 2014.  Quinlan Milne-Rojek threw a gem and held the Cobras to 4 hits over 5 2/3.  We couldn't get the bats going and put anything together.  In the 5th Evan Reed tied the game with a huge 2 out RBI double, but the Cobras came right back in the 6th and led off with a HR (which would have been a routine fly ball at Parade) that put them ahead for good.  Playoffs start this Saturday at 11am vs Minneapolis River Rats (Parade Stadium).

7/22/14 - Baseball 365 lost to the Savage Outlaws 6-3 on Tuesday night.  Not much to report here as we only collected 4 hits.  Andrew Peterson went the distance on the mound.  He was shakey early, but ended up settling down and pitching a good game.  Last league game tonight vs. the Cobras.

7/14/14 - Baseball 365 beat Lyons Pub 5-4 in 9 innings for their 4th straight league victory in the 1st game of a doubleheader.  Nate Cousins battled for 7 innings thru terrible mound conditions and an umpire who refused to call a strike against Pub hitters.  Everyone in the lineup had at least 1 hit.  Zach Schroeder went 3-4.  Game 2 started well, but ended with a 8-3 loss.  Sam Bunnett did his best to carry the offense, hitting one of his signature "moonshots" that cleared the bases in the 3rd.  But we couldn't hold on.  Still, with an 8-7 league record with 1 game to go, we like where we're sitting going into playoffs soon.

7/10/14 - Baseball 365 extended the league winning streak to 3 games with a 7-2 win over the Merchants.  Zach Siggelkow went 6 strong, while Nate Behlen (2-3, 2 2B, 3 RBI) and David Sell (3-4, 3 RBI) led the offense.

7/9/14 - Baseball 365 picked up a huge league win over the Angels behind the pitching of Nate Cousins and the bat of Nate Behlen.  Cousins threw a complete game 5 hitter and kept the Angels lineup from making much solid contact all night.  Nate Behlen hit 2 doubles and a homerun while knocking in 3 runs.

7/8/14 - Baseball 365 got DESTROYED by Chaska 18-3.  Pitching was horrendous.  The same guy hit 2 grand slams.  Not much else to say.

7/2/14 - Baseball 365 swept the season series from the Rats with a 7-5 victory.  Brandon Schmahl hit a bases clearing triple in the 5th inning to seal the win.

6/29/14 - Baseball dropped a heartbreaker to the Lakers 5-4.  Nate Cousins kept the Lakers off the scoreboard thru 5 innings and Baseball 365 jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  But in the 6th, within a span of about 3 minutes, the Lakers got 5 straight hits and went up 5-4.  365 managed to get 2 baserunners in the 7th, but came up short.

6/27/14 - Baseball 365's mid-season free fall continued last night against the Blue Sox.  Pitching was bad.  Allowing 8 hits, 4 walks, and 6 runs to the Blue Sox is unheard of.  Hitting was pathetic.  With the exception of Goplen and Bunnett going 4 for 8, the rest of the batting order went 4 for 20 off a right handed pitcher topping out at 75.  Not good.  The combination of injuries and poorly timed vacations in the heart of the league schedule has really taken its toll on our batting order and the results speak for themselves.  After a great start to our league schedule, we're left scrambling to try and figure out how to turn this thing back around.  We need some guys to step up and start making things happen.

6/25/14 - Baseball 365 dropped a heartbreaker to the Patriots 6-5 in 10 innings.  The game started with the homeplate umpire spotting the Pats to a 2-0 lead by not ringing up players watching strike 3.  Two different times, a pitch that couldn't be any more perfect was thrown that should have been called strike 3, and instead wasn't.  Both hitters then went on to get on base and eventually score.  I think both teams would agree the home plate umpire was horrible all night. Going into the 7th inning, the Pats were up 3-0 and Baseball 365 had managed only 2 hits.  Then the 7th went like this; 2B, BB, SAC, BB, BB, 1B, BB, K, 1B, F7.  Baseball 365 went up 5-3 but if you think the game is over, you'd be wrong.  It was just getting started.  In the bottom half, the Pats managed to get 2 guys on for their best hitter.  He crushed a Cousins fastball over the LF's head which tied the game again.  After a couple more scoreless frames, the Patriots managed to scratch out a run in the bottom of the 10th inning.  Another tough loss.

6/24/14 - Well we finally got to play baseball again after 5 straight cancellations.. But the rust was evident.  Baseball 365 jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a big 2-RBI double from Nate Behlen.  Andrew Favaro started and went 4 strong innings, before running into trouble in the 5th.  Favaro was pulled and then the wheels fell off.  The bullpen couldn't throw strikes, threw several wild pitches, and ended up allowing the Cobras to put up a 7 spot in the 5th inning.  Game Over.

Cobras - 10

Baseball 365 - 3

-------------------------------------------

6/9/14 - Baseball 365 lost a heart breaker to the Angels 1-0 in 9 innings.  The story was pitching.  Nate Cousins pitched the entire game, allowing only 5 hits, but ultimately poor defense cost us the game.  The Angels were able to get the leadoff guy on in the 9th, then bunt him over to 2nd.  So with a runner on 2nd and 1 out, the batter hit a high chopper that both the SS and 2B charged in on.  Problem was, neither got a glove on it and it rolled thru them allowing the runner from 2nd to come around and score.  Cousins goes 9 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K, and 1 unearned run.  Very tough loss to a good team.

------------------------------------------

6/6/14 - Well that was ugly!  Baseball 365 goes from 10-Running the Rats on Wednesday to getting 10-Runned by the Lakers on Friday.  Nothing went well.  Our pitching was bad, as Diaz and Peterson got rocked.  Our hitting was even worse, as we only got 2 hits and struck out 12 times in 6 innings.  Two hits?  Thats all we got is 2 goddamn hits?!!!  Baseball 365 looks to rebound on Monday against the Angels in another big league matchup.

--------------------------------------

6/4/14 - Wednesday night was another important league game between the River Rats and Baseball 365.  Nate Cousins got the start for BB365.  The game started slowly with only one hit between the two clubs through two innings.  Offensively BB365 picked it up in the third inning scoring 2 runs with hits in the inning by Bakko, David Sell, and Goplen.  From there on it was all Baseball 365, scoring 8 runs over the next two innings and 10 running the Rats in 5.  Final 10-0 Baseball 365 defeats the Rats.  Nate Cousins cruises through 5 to get the shutout while striking out 7, walking 1, and only letting up 2 hits.

------------------------------------

6/2/14 - Baseball 365 came up with a huge league victory over the Patriots by a score of 8-3.  The game started off about as good as you can hope a game starts, with Baseball 365 scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning.  Bistro had a huge double off the ivy, while Milne Rojek squeeked out a 2-RBI hit that barely got out of the infield.  But as long as it gets the job done, it doesn't have to be pretty!  Andrew Favaro started on the mound for 365, and dominated early with 8 K's in 4 innings.  Favaro ran into a little trouble in the 4th and surrendered a 2 run 2B before being pulled in favor of Andrew Peterson.  Peterson threw 2 good innings, before the old veteran Billy Diaz closed out the win.  Highlight of the game provided by the umpires, who after one of the Pats hitters fouled off a bunt, had a called strike, hit a 2nd foul ball, and then took a full swing and missed, the home plate umpire decided he only had 2 strikes, after an arguement from our bench, he checked with the field umpire who said he didn't go around....HE TOOK A FULL SWING!  Fans for both teams were laughing.  Well done umpires!

Baseball 365 moves to 2-0 in league, 6-3 overall.

5/29/14 - Baseball 365 beat White Bear Lake 3-2 on one of the worst fields you'll see amateur baseball players play on.  It was terrible.  Quinlan Milne-Rojek pitched all 7 innings and held WBL to just 6 hits and 2 runs.  Jackson Goplen led the offense with a 2-4, 2 SB day at the plate.

5/28/14 - Baseball 365 travelled down to take on a good Northfield team.  We jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a few walks and a Ryder Klopp triple.  Nate Cousins started on the mound and dominated early, allowing only 1 hit thru the 1st 4 innings.  With the score 3-1 in the 7th, Baseball 365 had a rough defensive inning with several mental lapses, which allowed the Knights to take a 4-3 lead.  But 365 fought back in the 9th, scoring 3 runs on hits from Jackson Goplen and Klopp.  But unfortunately in the bottom half of the inning, after about 160 pitches, Northfield finally figured Cousins out and was able to win it in walk off fashion on a short sac fly to RF.  Very good game, both teams showed a lot of fight!  Northfield came out on top in this one.

5/21/14 - Our league schedule started on Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over the Blue Sox.  Nate Cousins threw a complete game 2-hitter while dishing out 11 strikeouts against a lineup that looked to be a little overmatched.  Cousins took a no-hitter into the 5th, before a short fly ball popped out of the glove of a diving David Sell in CF.  The offense was led by David Sell's 3-4 performance and he got help from Jackson Goplen (2-3, 2 RBI), Sam Bunnett (2-3, 2 RBI), and Nate Behlen (2-3, RBI).  Good start to the Park National season!

Blue Sox - 1

5/20/14 - Baseball 365 traveled to Burnsville on Tuesday to take on the Burnsville Bobcats.  The pitching combination of Jack Deutsch, Quinlan Milne Rojek, and Evan Jenkins was able to hold the Bobcats to just 5 hits.  Offensively, 365 was able to take advantage of numerous walks issued by the Bobcats and hold on for a 6-4 victory.  Offensive MVP was Jackson Goplen who went 2-3 with 2 walks, an RBI, and a SB.

New pickup Jack Deutsch started and threw very well, against one of the better hitting teams in the state, going 4 complete and letting up only 3 hits.  Offensively 3 players had 2 hits each.

9 guys, with 2 pitchers in the lineup, and an umpire who obviously lives in St. Peter is not a recipe for success.

The second game of the season saw a rough field, tall grass, many strikeouts and a moonshot. New Richland tried everything in their arsenal to throw us off our game which included a brush fire outside the left field wall. Billy Diaz started and didn't waste anytime getting his first Hit Batter out of the way on the season. He went on to dominate New Richland pitching 6 innings, letting up only 2 hits while striking out 13. Offensively the bats were cold, going run less for 6 innings, until Bunnett came up in the 7th with bases loaded and hit a Bistro sized shot over the right field fence to put us up for good. Larson came in and shut them down for three innings to secure the victory.

The inaugural season for the Baseball 365 team started off with a 4-3 victory over the Carver Black Sox on a cold and windy, but dry day.  Nate Cousins took the mound for 365 and pitched an unprecedented (and foolish) 9 inning complete game in the 1st game of the season.  Cousins struck out 7 of the first 9 batters of the game and went on to allow just 5 hits, 1 walk, and no earned runs while stiking out 11.  The offense was led by Nate Behlen who went 2-4 with a huge 2 RBI double, and Jackson Goplen who managed to get on base and then steal second, third, and home.  Next up; New Richland - tonight.
