Baseball 365

05/26/2018 - 2018 Season

8/10/18 - Well, that's all she wrote folks.  Baseball 365 didn't put up much of a fight (at least not with the other team!) in the State Tournament, getting destroyed 13-1 by St. Louis Park.  Defense was bad, pitching was bad, hitting was bad.  We had a really good season, which ended with a thud.  Oh well, that's baseball.  We went up against a superior team and got beat in every facet of the game.

8/6/18 - Baseball 365 is State Tournament Bound!!!!!  After a very hard fought series with the Angels, Baseball 365 moves on to it's 2nd straight State Tourney appearance.  Many incredible performances in the series, starting with speedster Tommy Bean, who in the postseason is 14-24 with 10 SB's, Isaiah Welckle is 9-18, Doug Lewis is 2-0, Mark Fenstad came up big against his former team several times, and lastly, Hoyt DeVolder came in and threw 7 relief innings allowing just 1 unearned run.  In game 3, Baseball 365 made 2 of the best defensive plays you'll ever see at ANY level of baseball.  Tommy Bean outdid Willie Mays and Jim Edmonds combined, by sprinting straight backwards on a ball hit to the right field fence, diving and making a laid out over the shoulder catch trapping the ball against his chest.  I've never seen anything like it!  If we had it on video, they'd put it on Sportscenter.  Seriously.  Then on the last play of the game, up 7-4, with 2 runners on base, the Angels hit a ball in the 3B/SS hole, which Danny Carlson dove for, knocked down, grabbed with his bare hand, rolled over onto his butt, and in a sitting position throws a strike all the way across the infield to the first baseman.  The arm strenght and determination he showed to make a play like that was unbelievable!  This team is something special!!!  We play this Friday at 8:30 at Dunning Field against St. Louis Park.

7/29/18 - Baseball 365 moved onto the next round of the playoffs with a 13-0 win over the River Rats.  Many stars of the game;  Nate Behlen was 3-4 with 3 RBI and crushed everything.  Alex Gomez was also 3-4, and is hitting really well lately.  Tommy Bean was 3-6 with a couple RBI.  Isaiah Welckle was 3-5 to go along with excellent defense in centerfield.  Thomas Kinsella walked 4 more times, making it 7 walks in the 2 game series. John Lundquist came off the bench and smashed a pinch hit homerun.  Defense was solid all game, helping Nate Cousins (11-1) pitch a 3-hit shutout.  Next up; Minneapolis Angels in a best of 3 series next weekend.  Winner goes to the State Tournament!

7/27/18 - Baseball 365 took Game 1 over the River Rats 12-5.  Doug Lewis was phenominal on the mound, keeping the Rats hitters off balance all night.  John Lundquist came in and shut the door after the Rats put together a little rally in the 7th.  Offensively, Tommy Bean was fun to watch.  He reached base all 6 times at bat, using bunts and speed to cause havoc all night.  Alex Gomez was 3-4, and Isaiah Welckle reached base 4 out of 5 times, and showcased his arm in CF, gunning down runners and throwing balls over the backstop.  Great team win, guys picking each other up all night.  Game 2 tonight 6:00 @ Parade.

7/25/18 - Baseball 365 picked up a lopsided victory over the Champlin Blue Jays last night 21-0.  The story of the night was Kyle Schnickels throwing his 1st career shutout.  Kyle possesses excellent stuff, but is often times plagued by control issues, so last night showed what he's capable of when he throws strikes.  He had 10 strikeouts and just 2 walks, while allowing 3 hits.  Offensively, everyone hit, but the main standouts were Nate Behlen (4-5, 5 RBI) who picked up his 100th career RBI for the 365ers.  Isaiah Welckle, Hoyt DeVolder, Jack Piram, Robby Rowen, and Alex Gomez all had 3 hits each.  Playoffs start Friday 7:00 @ Parade.

7/23/18 - Baseball 365 closed out the regular season league schedule with an 8-1 win over the Minneapolis Mudcats.  We finish 10-6 in league play, 4th place in the Park National League.  "The Mark Fenstad Experience" was at its best last night, starting off looking slow at the dish and committing an error that gave the Mudcats a 1-0 lead, then later exploding and finishing 2-4 with a 2B and 5 RBI's.  Nate Behlen also hit really well (2 for 4, everything hit hard) considering he's playing on 1 good leg and feeling under the weather.  With the offense lifeless, Ryan Cousins showed great hustle beating out an infield single which ended up starting the 8 run rally in the 6th.  And Hoyt DeVolder had a clutch bunt that ended up being misplayed and helped turn what was looking like a 1-0 loss into an 8-1 win very quickly.  Nate Cousins picked up the win, and is now 10-1 with a 0.85 ERA on the season.  Final tuneup Wednesday before playoffs start next Friday!

7/18/18 - Baseball 365 beat the Watertown Red Devils last night 9-4.  The story of the game was Kyle "Timmy" Wright, who after giving up a HR to lead off the game, settled down and threw 6 very efficient innings.  Wright also contributed with the bat, going 1-2 w/ 3 BB's.  After the bullpen got into trouble, Hoyt DeVolder came in and put out the fire, getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs, and earning his 1st career townball save.  Offensive star of the game was "The Mark Fenstad Experience", who went 2-3 with a 2B, HR, BB and 4 RBI's.  Fenstad pimped the HR so hard that he didn't leave the batters box until it had landed over the fence, earning his teammate Robby Rowen a fastball to the head two batters later.  Nate Behlen was 2-4 w/ 2 RBI, and Danny Carlson extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games.

7/14/18 - Baseball 365 took care of the Minneapolis Blue Sox last night 10-0.  Multiple RBI's for Danny Carlson (who extended his hitting streak to 11 games), Thomas Kinsella, and Jake Christianson, who took a month off to "get stronger".  I guess he got on the right injection regimen, because he mashed last night!  Alex Gomez also hit very well, with multiple hits, and rookie Tommy Bean was moving so fast we can't remember exactly what he did because it was such a blur, but we know it was good.  Oh, and Nate Cousins threw his 4th career no-hitter!  Cousins has now No-Hit half the league (Cobras, Lyons Pub, Blue Sox, Merchants).

7/11/18 - First off, I apologize for the lack of write-ups this season, our normal team journalist has been slacking this year because he got married or something.  Anyway, Baseball 365 dropped a tough one to the Minneapolis Patriots last night 1-0.  Not much to say, other than we have to tip our cap to the Patriots pitcher who struck us out 13 times in 7 innings.  He dealt.  Doug Lewis, aka Dougie Fresh, was the king of no run support yet again.  Several times this year, he's pitched great and come away with a loss.  Offensively, not much to report, other than a lot of strikeouts.  But Danny Carlson extended his hitting streak to 10 games, Jack Piram got hit in the head several times, and Robby Rowen says he's quitting because everyone laughed at him when he fell down trying to run to first.  Next game Thursday against the Mudcats @ Parade.

7/10/18 - Very exciting news to report!  An original Baseball 365er is getting married!  Congratulations to Jack Piram & Vika!!!

6/6/18 - Longtime P-Nash pitcher Nate Cousins reached a major milestone on June 6th, 2018 against the Minneapolis Cobras, picking up his 9th strikeout of the game, which happened to be his 1000th career strikeout.  Cousins has been pitching in the tough Park National League since 2002, and is one of the longest tenured players in the league.  Cousins started pitching for the Minneapolis Lakers back in 2002, before becoming the longtime ace of the Minneapolis Rocks.  Eventually the Rocks folded, and Cousins pitched 2 seasons for the Lyons Pub Warriors before starting the Baseball 365 Team.
